Privacy Policy

findbook.co is a service from Adventures With Words, a UK business. This page explains what information we keep, why, and what your choices are. You can reach us at hello@findbook.co.
If you visit a findbook.co link or page
We do not use cookies for visitors, and we do not store your IP address. When you open a book link, shop page, Bio Page, Event Page or QR code, we record one anonymous line: the date and time, your country, whether you used a phone, tablet or computer, your browser and system, the website you came from (if any), and which button you pressed. That line does not say who you are. The person or business that made the page sees the totals.
When you press a button to a shop, you leave findbook.co and the shop's own privacy policy applies. Some links to Amazon and other shops include an affiliate tag. If you buy, the shop may pay a small commission to the person who made the link or to us, and it costs you nothing extra.
The Share links on Event Pages and the Get directions link only contact Facebook, WhatsApp, X, email or Google Maps if you press them.
If you have a findbook.co account
We keep:
- your name, email address and whether you are an author or publisher, so we can run and approve your account;
- your password, stored in a scrambled form that nobody can read, and your two step login details if you switch that on;
- when you last logged in, and short-lived security records of login attempts (kept for about two days, using a scrambled form of the internet address, to stop people guessing passwords);
- what you make: links, pages, pictures, QR codes, notes and settings, and the anonymous visit totals described above;
- if you are on a team (the Team plan), your name, email address, whether 2FA is on, when you last logged in, and a short list of the changes you make, which your team admin and the other people on the team can see. If someone invites you, we use your email address to send the invitation and keep the invitation until it is used, cancelled or has expired;
- the browsers you have logged in from (see below), so we can warn you about a new one;
- the emails we send you (confirming your address, approving your account, resetting a password, security warnings such as a new login or a changed password, and billing notices).
We use two cookies, and both are for security. One keeps you logged in. The other is a random code that lets us recognise a browser you have logged in from before, so we can email you if your account is used from one we have not seen. We keep only a scrambled copy of that code, the name of the browser and system (for example Chrome on Mac), the country and the dates, and keep up to 20 browsers for each account. We use no other cookies.
When you choose a password, we check it against Have I Been Pwned's list of passwords that have leaked in data breaches. Only the first five characters of a scrambled version of the password are sent, so neither the password nor your account is revealed. If a password is on the list we ask you to choose another.
Payments
If you pay for the full plan, the payment is taken by Stripe on Stripe's own page. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach findbook.co. We keep only a Stripe customer reference, whether your plan is active, and your renewal date. Stripe's own privacy policy explains what it does with your details.
Why we use your information
- To run your account and give you the service you asked for.
- To keep the service secure and stop misuse.
- To keep accounting records the law asks us to keep.
- To answer you when you write to us.
We do not sell your information and we do not send marketing emails.
Who helps us run the service
- Cloudflare hosts the service and its database.
- Brevo sends our emails.
- Stripe takes payments.
These companies handle your information only to provide their service to us, and some may process it outside the UK under recognised safeguards. We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep account information and what you make for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it with everything you made. Accounting records, such as payment details, are kept for as long as the law requires, which in the UK is usually about six years. Anonymous visit totals stay with the account they belong to.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, or to object to it. Email hello@findbook.co and we will reply within one month. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk (0303 123 1113).
Children
findbook.co is for authors, publishers and the people who work with them. It is not aimed at children.
